1. WTF: MARC MARON

wtfpod.com/podcast

I was hanging out with Marc Maron at the Comedy Store one night, or some comedy club on Sunset, when some other comic canceled, so they asked Marc if he could do three shows that night; in the big room, the middle room, and the little room and he said, “Sure, no problem.”

I was hanging out with him because I thought Marc might have some contacts for some people I needed to interview, so I stayed for all three shows, and my god, what a joy! And damn, what stamina Maron has!

He did the same act for all three shows, and I got to study his delivery of the same material for every show, and boy was I impressed! He didn’t screw up once and went over BIG in every room! It was an amazing experience, and even though I knew what was coming, Maron’s delivery is so extraordinarily intimate, that I laughed every time like it was the first! And I get bored very easily, but every show was completely new! After seeing Maron work that night, I can understand why he’s so successful! Damn what a hard-working guy! (Oh, and his podcast is great too!) [Free]

4. HENRY & HEIDI

henryrollins.com/podcast

In Henry & Heidi, Henry Rollins (Black Flag, Rollins Band) details stories from his memorable career with his longtime assistant, Heidi May. Despite limited episodes, their chemistry unfolds gloriously due to their 21-year working relationship, prompting Rollins to share some unbelievably candid and hilarious anecdotes while May peppers him with questions. Rollins describes his first time experimenting with LSD. The reason? A stranger told him he wouldn’t be as much of a prick if he tried it. He heeds their advice and calls up a friend, and he ends up taking three tabs within a half-hour. Chaos ensues, and Rollins reveals how Black Flag’s My War potentially saved his life during a drive that feels like a scene derived from Fear And Loathing.
